Dear wine lovers,
For October we will return to Central Europe with a wine tasting focused on Austrian wines.
You may think that Austria is all about Gruener Veltliner, its flagship white wine, but you would be wrong. The country grows 40 different grapes for wine production, 26 white and 14 red. While it is best known for acidic and sweet white wines in general, it also produces some excellent and democratically priced dry reds from grapes including Blaufraenkisch and Zweigelt.
As usual the tasting will feature 8 wines, including a mix of whites and reds, and focusing on indigenous grape varieties. Most of these I brought back from a trip to Austria earlier this year.
The wine will be paired with good food that complements the wines we’ll be drinking (and vice-versa).
